Projects

Groot Ship Design is the independent specialist for all cargo vessel designs up to handymax size. The project portfolio of Groot Ship Design knows a wide variety of vessels, from small multipurpose sea-river vessels to worldwide operating special type cargo carriers.

Our design projects are developed in close cooperation with our clients, the future ship owners. The close cooperation with ship owners, exchanging the necessary relevant information, ensures the success of the project.

The engineering projects which Groot Ship Design performed for third parties are done with true dedication. For such projects it is possible the client delivers an existing design, if requested a design check is performed. Delivering high quality construction and piping or system engineering, allowing the shipyard to build efficiently, is our goal.

In many designs we have successfully introduced our Groot Cross-Bow®.

OPENTOP 5000

The Open Top 5000 design was developed in close cooperation with the Briese Group and are built by a shipyard in China.

BITUMEN CARRIER

For and in close cooperation with Vroon Groot Ship Design developed a next generation bitumen carrier. The design features the Groot Cross-Bow®.

CORALIUS (LNG CARRIER)

For shipyard Royal Bodewes our engineers performed the construction engineering of the small scale LNG Carrier ‘Coralius’ owned by the combination Sirius Shipping / Anthony Veder.

SEA-RIVER LINER 2600

The Sea-River Liner 2600 is specially developed to sail the shelter coastal waters and rivers of India. This versatile short sea vessel was developed in close cooperation with Chowgule Shipyard and is executed to serve the local market.

SEA-RIVER LINER 3700

The Sea-River Liner 3700 is a success story for the builder and owner. This versatile short sea vessel for European waters, powered by just 746 kW, was developed in close cooperation with Groningen Shipyard and owner Wijnne Barends (part of Spliethoff group).

LIVESTOCK CARRIER VROON

For and in close cooperation with Vroon Groot Ship Design developed a next generation Livestockcarrier. The design features the Groot Cross-Bow® and turned out to be very successful. Initially 3 vessels were ordered, soon followed with 4 more, making a total of 7 vessels built. The vessels are all build at Cosco Guangzhou Shipyard in China, Groot Ship Design cooperated with both owner and shipyard.

KROONBORG (W2W Vessel)

For shipyard Niestern Sander our engineers performed the construction engineering of the offshore service vessel ‘Kroonborg’ for owner Wagenborg. Challenges were the foundations for Ampelman and Bargemaster systems.

ECONTFLEX 1000/1200

The ECONTFLEX 1000 / 1200 design series reflects a versatile ‘next generation’ container feeder for short sea services in Europe or Carib areas. The series include 2 designs of 1,000 TEU and 1,200 TEU. The designs are able to run on LNG as main fuel, equipped with cell guides and own cargo gear.

PORTFEEDER

The Portfeeder developed for Chowgule shipyard (from India) proved to be a successful design. The yard built two vessels proving the abilities of these designs. The vessels are operated in the Goa port area running a small scale container service.

SUPER GREEN 8500 / 10000

Carisbrooke Shipping developed together with Groot Ship Design a series of 8500 DWT ‘Super Green Vessels’ and continued the series of 4 with another series of 4 vessels enlarged to 10000 DWT. These eight vessels were the first ones built with a Groot Cross-Bow® and received as first vessels an EEDI certificate from Germanischer Lloyd.

SHORT-SEA LNG 5000

The Short-Sea LNG 5000 was developed to accommodate the future demand for transport of LNG, or LNG in combination with traditional fuel oils. Several tank configurations and discharge booms have been studied. The design houses the well-known Groot Cross-Bow® ensuring optimum efficiency in rough conditions that can be encountered in European coastal water.

ARK GERMANIA

For shipyard P&S Werften in Germany Groot Ship Design provided assistance from the Polish office in Szczecin.  Our engineers performed the construction engineering, system engineering, piping and routings and made the necessary arrangements. The Ark Germany was built by P&S for DFDS.
