Second half of 2018 PT Karya Tekhnik Utama (KTU), based in Jakarta (Indonesia), approached Groot Ship Design for the development of a new type of 4200 DWT multipurpose vessel. After some first discussions and exchange of ideas the decision was made to cooperate and develop 2 versions: a gearless vessel and a vessel with a single loading gear. The designs will be according local and international standards.
KTU was first established in 1983, starting as a marine workshop at Jalan Kakap in Jakarta. A shipyard in Marunda was soon acquired, initially focused on wooden fishing vessels. KTU progressed and built another shipyard at Sagulung in 1990 and Sekupang in 1992, both located in Batam. Both shipyards are supported by a wide range of facilities, skilled workforce and extensive area to construct ships of international standards.
The cooperation with Groot Ship Design allows KTU to build well designed, economically attractive vessels for local and international customers.
Groot Ship Design appreciates the choice of KTU for Groot Ship Design as preferred design house and is looking forward to build up a long lasting relationship.
